The Eligibility Criteria for an Air Hostess Job

In recent years, India has seen significant growth in the air hostess job sector.
Many undergraduates and graduates look to work as flight attendants on account of the good pay, the opportunity to meet individuals from all cultures, travel to different locations, and learn new life skills.

The job of an air hostess may appear simple, but it is more than just serving and waiting. The air hostess is responsible for greeting all passengers, coordinating with security, caring for passengers, advising passengers on seating and safety, and much more.

As such, it is a job that requires a significant amount of training in an air hostess school after the different eligibility criteria have been met. In this blog post, we have discussed the eligibility criteria to become an air hostess.

Educational Qualifications:

Candidates do not have to go through degree college to earn eligibility; any qualification at and above a 10+2 and a course is sufficient for an air hostess position. Candidates must be able to read, write, and speak English. They will have to eventually learn customer relationship management and computerized reservation systems. So some small measure of computer literacy might hold them in good stead, though it isn’t an official qualification in and of itself.

Age Limits

The age limit is set by the airlines. Flight attendant academies generally prefer individuals between the ages of 17 and 26. Why? Most airlines focus their intake on the younger demographic. Given that the job can be hard on the body and one’s sleep cycles, younger people are more equipped to deal with it—that is how the industry has evolved over time.

Physical Standards & Fitness

The physical standards of air hostesses are subject to the airlines: height, Body Mass Index, weight, and other attributes are debated as per the company guidelines. Physical fitness should generally be above average, and swimming skills are a requirement in case of a water landing. 6/9 vision is required for the various emergency situations involved in the process.

Behavioral Skills Required

To work as an air hostess, you must possess particular behavioral skills in addition to meeting educational, physical, and medical requirements.

Excellent Communication Skills:

Language mastery and communication abilities are a prime mover in the day-to-day activities on flight. Passengers from all cultures, professions, and dispositions will be on board. Flight attendants have to be able to diffuse trouble and dispenseluxuries based on sound judgment.

Presence of Mind:

An air hostess must be able to guide terrified passengers on board in the event of an emergency landing. Composure in the face of a fearful situation is one of the skills that can only be learned with simulated training sessions at air hostess schools.

Team Work:

An air steward should work well with others, no matter the situation. A cabin crew consists of 12-14 people who must work together.

Ready to Work for Hours:

Flight delays are common due to bad weather or technical issues, therefore your working hours may be extended by 3 to 4 hours. The stamina required for the job can be demanding, so prepare yourself accordingly!
